Coming and Going OUT with a Bang!

October 19, 2010

Drag King, Aiden, "belts it out" in Sundin Music Hall last Friday night.

Last week was “Coming Out Week” for the LGBTQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Ally…and there’s many more) community, which was celebrated at Hamline through various events all week. Last Friday, Oct. 15th, Spectrum, Hamline’s LGBTQQIA organization, sponsored their annual “Coming Out Week Drag Show,” which has traditionally been the way Spectrum has concluded the festive week.

For most students, Friday night’s show was the first Drag Show they had gone to. What a great first experience! Hamline Alum, Nikita Schanzenbach ’10, served as M.C. for the evening. She was fabulous, providing the audience with a very tasteful, relaxed, and comical M.C. experience. The show itself was very comical, entertaining, and at times pushed some of us perhaps slightly past our comfort zones…you all know what I am talking about, haha.  Oh my…

Anyways, I know I had fun! Hope everyone else did too…I know I saw some parents handing out some ones, they may have enjoyed themselves the most! 🙂

If you would like to know more about Spectrum or let them know how much you like them, check out the Spectrum pages on Facebook! Or if you just can’t seem to get enough Drag, check out some drag in the Cities!

Until next time,

Mikaela 🙂

I think the best part of the show was when my friend Kyle got pinned down by that one Queen. 🙂
    Good night.
