What If…

October 13, 2010

Something very important and very cool is about to take place on Hamline’s campus. This year, an interfaith social justice campaign called “Better Together” is beginning. With the support of a national nonprofit called The Interfaith Youth Core and through the Wesley Center, April Palo has hit the ground running by gathering a group of students to help launch a series of events combating Islamophobia and other insensitivies through a religious literacy project, combined with interfaith service projects about these issues. No matter what religious or ethical tradition anyone belongs to — even if none at all — the group believes that as a campus, we can create change better if we do it together.

Basically, these events are going to begin as opportunities for dialogue, then transition into strong community action in the spring. The group will bring students together to create social change in a big way. As of right now, the group is planning to have their Kick-Off event on November 10th (details to come later), which they are calling the  “What If…” Rally.

If there are any questions about the “Better Together” campaign, or if you would like to help out in any way, you can contact the following people: April Palo, Trung Nguyen, Adam Zagoria-Moffet, Mikaela Fisher, Rola Alkatout, Bile Areys, Fatima Showkatian, Saraya Boghani, or Megan Dimond.

Until next time,

Mikaela 🙂
